Writing Desk T69 by Peter Ghyczy

About

A writing desk T69 designed in 1970 by Peter Ghyczy. Originally owned by Peter Ghyczy. This table is one of the first prototype series of 1970. The glass tabletop lies on the two elegant pedestals, coated with black mat nylon powder lacquer. This writing desk was owned by Peter Ghyczy. It was standing in his home for many years. Normally these pedestals were chrome-plated, just a few have been lacquered in mat black. After the Hungarian revolution Peter Ghyczy has left Hungary to settle in West-Germany. With a degree in architecture, Peter Ghyczy started to work for plastics producer Reuter in Lemförde. In 1968, as a head of design department at Reuter, he aimed to design "independent and unique pieces of furniture". The main and most famous product of that period is the ‘Garden Egg' chair. This extraordinary chair gained iconic status and was being exposed at many design exhibitions around the world. In 1972 he founded his own company and presented his first furniture collection. It was based on casting techniques which he transferred from plastics to metal. He patented many of his developments, especially for his innovative method of clamping glass and metal together. He used this technique for a new type of "frameless" table, which has often been copied and which he used as a basis for an entire product line. Finally he also patented "frameless" shelf R03 which has made its way into many furniture stores. The studio of Peter Ghyczy in Netherlands to this day continues to offer products of contemporary innovative design combined with state of the art production techniques.
