"23 V: Countercurrent, " Large Contemporary Oil Painting on Canvas by Renée Rey
About the Item
In her mixed-media artwork "23 V Countercurrent," Rey explores narratives connecting nature, technology and sustainability. Fusing a Postmodern oeuvre of abstraction and surrealism, with a nod to Tiepolo, Constable and Dali, the artist ignites saturated stems of red, pink, and green pigments in a world where color and form flow in and out of multi-perspectives. Springing forth through space is symbolic iconography. Sea life including fish, manatee and coral swim through currents of air, water and land as the artist examines the dynamic link between them. Engineered towers protect vital H2O for human sustenance while elements of the periodic table depict the equality of all that exists on earth and beyond.
Renée Rey is a painter and mixed-media artist working in southwest Florida and New York City. In Rey's telescopic and intimate artwork, she challenges traditional landscapes and self-portraits transforming them in mythopoetic universes disrupting primordial and natural systems. Formal language of abstraction and realism are ruptured and conflated in saturated color, staccato mark-making and symbolic iconography exploring seemingly disparate associations between identity, cultural diversity, science, religion, technology and the environment.
During her 26 year career, Rey's artwork has been selected for national awards and exhibitions by art professionals, museum curators and gallerists, and has been collected internationally. The artist has studied visual art and art history on the undergraduate and graduate levels in New York and Florida. She holds an MBA in Management.

- Oil Painting on Canvas by Yang QianLocated in Atlanta, GATitle: Hiding in The Jungle Artist: Yang Qian (Chinese; B. 1959) Medium: Oil on canvas Years: purchased circa 1990 A Palm Beach, FL collection An early work by Yang Qian during his sojourn in Florida, USA. The series delved into art history with reinterpretation and overlaying symbolism. The painting is set in a moody tropical jungle at night and is a clear reinterpretation and a dialogue between Henri Rousseau's The Dream and Paul Gauguin's La Femme du Roi. Although the two French artists were contemporaries, they may have not intersected in their personal lives. Pioneering and ground-breaking for their time, their work were celebrated posthumously and served as inspiration for later artists.
