In Mark Milloff's diptych,"Luther During The Storm," 1981 the artist masterfully uses pastel on paper to merge form and content. At first glance, undulating, gradient shades of gray together with writhing white lines depict a turbulent storm, the sky pierced with electrically charged streaks of peach lightning. Upon closer examination the Silhouette of a dog, emerges from the tempest from which he is visually enveloped. This work on paper is newly framed in greige, grained wood. Provenance: The Atlantic Richfield Company. Mark Milloff has been an artist for 30 years exhibiting in galleries throughout the United States and Europe. While he was still in graduate school he exhibited in group exhibitions at the prominent Allan Stone Gallery. At the time he created "Luther During the Storm," he was represented by the iconic Holly Solomon Gallery who represented many of the finest contemporary artists of the decade. In 2013 Milloff had a one-man exhibition at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London, CT. Presently he is a professor at the Rhode Island School of Design.
