Pop Art Silkscreen by Woody Van Amen, 1968

About the Item

Unique Pop Art silkscreen by famous Dutch pop art pioneer Woody van Amen (born 1936), 1968. Van Amen attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam in 1956, after which he travelled to the United States and studied at Cooper Union in New York from 1961-1963. The period he spent in New York was a formative moment in his career and life; he became acquainted with Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, and other artists at the forefront of defining Pop art in United States. He later returned to the Netherlands and implemented a newborn pop aesthetic in his work. This particular work is part of the Permanent Wave, third series. The silkscreen has a textured plastic front and an aluminium frame. The work is stamped and signed at the backside: 'Aan het strand stil en verlaten' which can be translated into 'At the beach quiet and deserted'. Unique playful work in good original condition.
