Ruth Rodman Evening Sounds v Framed Artist Proof Collagraph Intaglio Print

About the Item

Expertly rendered “Evening Sounds V” by seasoned artist, Ruth Rodman. The collagraph technique lends itself well to Rodman’s multi-tone, multi-layered textured print. Collagraphy is a unique process by which the artist adheres materials to a rigid substrate, like a collage. The artist then applies ink to the textured surface to create an intaglio print. Intaglio is a form of print making with etched designs holding the ink to create the image. Rodman is a true master of this collagraph/intaglio method. “Evening Sounds” seems like the perfect title for this image. Layers of green, ochre, terra cotta and teal colors seem to swim together, appearing with distinction at first, but becoming muddy as the image progresses upward… much like the sounds of the night. The print is pressed on paper and housed in a gold frame with textured carnelian colored matte. A pane of acrylic protects the art. It seems Rodman intended the image to be hung by one corner, like a diamond. However, there is a cord to hang it at a horizontal orientation if desired. The image is pencil signed by the artist, with an artist proof distinction. About the artist “My paintings are mostly about my sculpture. They all have mica in the work, with layers of collage of handmade papers with collagraph prints I have painted on. I enjoy giving new life to my older work, and I especially like that they reflect the family feeling.” – Ruth Rodman Contemporary Boston sculptor and printmaker, Ruth Rodman has exhibited her art throughout the United States and Europe. Her original prints have been the subject of numerous special expositions including the Associated American Artists, New York, and the New York State College Museum. She has regularly exhibited with the Boston Printmakers. Today, in addition to printmaking, Ruth Rodman has been exploring sculptural forms made of unique material (bronze mixed with forton and fiberglass) well suited for both outdoor and indoor installations. In addition to private collections, Rodman’s art may also be found in the following public collections: the Worcester Art Museum, the Honolulu Institute of Fine Arts, the Boston Public Library, the Minneapolis Museum of Art, the New York Public Library and the New York Graphics Society. She has been commissioned to create original prints for such publishers s the Bowle Hopkins Gallery, California, John Szoke Graphics, New York, and the New York Graphics Society.

  • James C. Borden Large Cityscape Street Scene Watercolor Painting Cerused Frame
    Located in Chattanooga, TN
Absolutely masterful watercolor street scene painting by James C. Borden (1928-2013). Prepare to be awestruck when you lay eyes on this exquisitely detailed watercolor painting by James Borden. The modern painting depicts an ethereal urban scene crowned with summer light. The scale itself is impressive at over four feet wide and three feet high (50.75? x 36.675?). There is just so much to see, so much texture, so many layers. Borden has truly mastered his medium. This is a watercolor cityscape on paper, housed in a cerused wood frame and protected by a pane of acrylic. The painting’s vibrant colors have beautifully preserved. The mastery of this painting is unreal. Borden’s orchestration of color leads the eye through the painting with late afternoon sunlight carving a path through an otherwise gray urban interior. His use of color is narrative. The viewer is being teased away from gloomy city life with a glimmer of sun and nature on the horizon. The nuance in his layering, through elevated passages of transparency… simply brilliant. Be sure to spend time with this painting. There is more to see each and every time you look. Did you notice the Easter egg? Borden used his name as the sign on one of the buildings on the left. The painting is pencil signed “Jim Borden.” James C. Borden studied at the School of the American Academy of Art in Chicago and was a life long painter. Mr. Borden spent much of his life in South Bend...

Mid-Century Modern harbor painting signed, “LeMark.” The painting deviates from others of the period with it’s bright aqua blue, yellow, green and white palette. Earth tones are abundant in Mid-Century Modern paintings. Here we have something light and bright to illuminate your space. The harbor scene is rendered with broad, painterly strokes. These dynamic brush marks are borrowed from the Abstract Expressionist aesthetic prevalent at the time. This painting will be right at home in coastal locations with it’s sailboat set...
