A dynamic 1980s Memphis-style mixed-media combine by Johnston, this sculptural wall work bursts with color, geometry, and dimensional energy. Layered plywood panels in vivid pink and green, pierced with circular cutouts, rise from a stretched canvas foundation. Cardboard elements and a central triangular recess introduce spatial play, while a projecting black rod extends the composition into real space. Hand-painted squiggled lines in white and gold—outlined with shadow effects—blur the line between illusion and physical form, recalling the experimental spirit of Rauschenberg’s combines and the exuberant geometry of the Memphis movement.
