"Garlanding the Fawn with Pearls, " Art Deco Masterpiece, Ceramic Panel

About the Item

Superbly painted in tones of rose, purplish blue and fawn, this scene of three robed women in a fantastical garden, placing their pearl necklaces around the neck of a deer, is a spectacular example of Art Deco decorative painting. Each of the figures is stylized and lushly painted, and their garden is planted with poplars, succulents and hollyhocks. This fascinating combination of foliage, some native to the Mediterranean and some to the British Isles, may reflect that the artist -- Simonaky -- was from Greece but his patrons were from Sheffield, England!
