This is a very old Japanese matting paper.
This item is from the Meiji period (1860's-1920's).
Size 1900mm x 1420mm
This is a large-sized paper mat made by pasting together warped paper and applying persimmon tannin.
This item has an inscription in black ink in the center that reads, “放八畳六枚之内三畳ノ方分一”, which suggests that it was used under tatami mats for the purpose of moisture proofing.
This is the first time I have seen such a large piece that has not been folded.
We will ship it rounded up.
With few tears, the paper is in excellent condition for its age.
