About

For J A H Ronsberg
Hand painted with various figurative motifs and descriptive lettering, now with wonderful original naturally aged and weathered surface.
English, c1850
71 ½” high x 53 ¼” wide

This signwritten Trade Sign is a wonderful piece of social history and Folk Art. The large architectural panel bears two generations of signwriting, the original now ghosting through the secondary. Built from three broad pine boards there is evidence of shrinkage, 'crocodiling' of paint surface, oxidisation and weathering, in fact everything we would hope to find in a piece of this age and nature. This is pure Folk Art.
