Large Fernware Round Charger from Mauchline, Scotland

About the Item

A fine large Scottish fernware charger of varnished sycamore wood and featuring a lovely radiating fern design from the center on the obverse and reverse sides. Fernware was introduced in the 1870s. This involved applying actual ferns to the wood which was then stippled in dark brown, the ferns removed and the wood varnished. The wood used was Sycamore and the products were sent all-over the world. Measures: Diameter is 14 1/2 inches.
