Antique Limoges Enamel Portrait of Woman and Lap Dog
Located in London, GB
The beautiful enamel plaque was crafted in Limoges, a town in northern France. Limoges has long been associated with the production of high quality enamel wares. While to begin with, in the 12th Century, the town was famous for its applied enamel pieces, religious icons, for example, which were crafted in metal with champlevé enamel ornament, Limoges later, in the 15th century, began to paint onto enamel, creating plaques, plates and ewers, which were both religious and secular in character. These local techniques were revived in the mid-19th century, when items like this enamel portrait painting were produced. This enamel portrait is a half-length depiction of a young woman. While her body is faced slightly to the side, she turns her head to look out directly at the viewer. The woman wears a fine, light pink gown...

By Jean-Antoine Watteau
Located in Vero Beach, FL
Jean Antoine Watteau (1684-1721) circle of. 18th century old master painting, France. With great pride we offer an extremely rare masterpiece from the 18th century, France. This painting is unsigned as most of his works. It has no provenance, but carries with it all the earmarks of the great Rococo style school of Watteau. It pictures one of his famous outdoor parties with a group of frolicking young people. In the background is a reference to a swing, a favored subject in his paintings. The composition of the painting, colors, brushstrokes (especially in the fabric) is clearly Watteau’s studio. This large 18th century canvas...

Jules-Louis Machard "Dream of Eros" Exceptional Oil Painting
By Jules Louis Machard
Located in New York, NY
Jules-Louis Machard (French 1839–1900) "Dream of Eros" Exceptional Oil Painting of a Cupid. "La reve d'Eros", "The Dream of Eros" In Greek mythology, Eros, is the Greek god of love. His Roman counterpart was Cupid. Normally, he is described as one of the children of Aphrodite and Ares, and with most of his siblings, was a part of group, consisting of winged love gods. However, sometimes he is also described as one of the primordial gods, but then, he is most often identified with Phanes. Eros was one of the Erotes, along with other figures such as Himeros and Pothos, who are sometimes considered patrons of homosexual love between males. Eros is also part of a triad of gods that played roles in homoerotic relationships, along with Heracles and Hermes, who bestowed qualities of beauty (and loyalty), strength, and eloquence, respectively, onto male lovers...
