About the Item

These are a very decorative pair of colored engravings or prints after Angelica Kauffmann, set in antique gold circular frames of a good size of 16.38 inch diameter and dating to the 19th century. These are prints or chromolithographs after the originals, not 18th century originals. The engravings / prints are called " Cupid Disarm'd by The Graces" and "Cupids Revenge Le Vengeance De LA' mour". We date these engravings / prints to the 19th century. They are set in black and gold glass mounts. The attractive matching wood frames are painted in an antique gold ormolu type finish and have a twisted outer edge moulding and a beaded inner border with some original hangings to the rear. These are good pair of frames in their own right and we date the frames to the second half of the 19th century. The rear of one picture carries a label from Crowther & Goodman, Engravers, Printers and lithographers of 124 Fenchurch Street, LONDON, EC. We are not sure whether they printed or engraved these prints or whether they were the framers or re-framers but Crowther & Goodman operated from that address in the late 19th century / Edwardian period. Notes: Maria Anna Angelika Kauffmann RA (30 October 1741-5 November 1807) was a Swiss Neoclassical painter who had a successful career in London and Rome. Remembered primarily as a history painter, Kauffmann was a skilled portraitist, landscape and decorative painter. She was one of the two female founding members of the Royal Academy in London in 1768.

Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Prints and glass good. Frames have some wear with some beads missing to inner border, 2 x beads on one frame and 1 bead on the other. One with original chain but could be hung with new cords or brackets as required.
