Very rare and real 17th century Alms collecting German Baroque dish with incredible moldings and details. Show a great exuberance. They were meant to impress and show the power of either the church or the king, so they were highly ornamented. Alms or almsgiving involves giving to others as an act of Virtue, either materially or in the sense of providing capabilities free. It exists in a number of religions and regions. This beautiful plate was used at the church to collect donations and contributions. In design today it could hand on the wall as a piece of art on top of a semainier of cabinet, it could be placed on stand that sits on a console or table. The beautiful deep lines and carved shapes makes this piece unique and special.
