"Plastics, " Striking, Original Graphic Design for Midcentury Advertisement
About the Item
An early and important example of graphic design by a woman artist, this striking drawing for "Plastics" in ink and watercolor was executed by Elsie Pivcevich in Cleveland. The stylized Christmas ornaments depicted here suggest that the advertisement was for a manufacturer of holiday decorations. The classic 1950s typeface and the clean, abstracted design make this a superb example of original design from the period. Not much is known about Pivcevich, except that she owned and managed a successful graphic design firm for years in the 1940s and 1950s. (Dimensions include original matte.)
