About the Item
Beautifully drawn, clearly by an important artist, this depiction of two nude male figures sitting in the foreground of a columned facade -- perhaps alluding to the Classical sculpture of ancient Greece -- is not signed, perhaps due to the subtly homoerotic nature of the scene. The two figures have the solidity and gravity of high style Art Deco art, and may represent the academic, early work of a great master such as Glyn Philpot or John Craxton. The medium is pencil on heavy paper. The reverse shows the drawing of a young woman's head. (Dimensions are for the full sheet; drawn portion is 19.25 inches high by 10 inches wide.).
