The original drawing is in the National Portrait Gallery. Described in the New York Times in February 21, 2003 by Grace Glueck in ART REVIEW; The World Was a Target For Satire From Queens publicizing the exhibit: ''The Pointed Pen: William Sharp's Courtroom Drawings, Political Caricatures and Book Illustrations From the 1930's-1950's'' at the Queens Museum of Art, New York City Building, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. "If he didn't quite have the bite of Daumier nor the pizazz of Hogarth, William Sharp (1900-1961) was still a wizard with a pen: a caricaturist, political cartoonist, courtroom artist, book illustrator and vignettist of urban life. An Austrian-born Jew who pseudonymously satirized Hitler and his followers as they rose to power in the 1920's, Sharp (then Leon Schleifer) fled Germany in 1933 on threat of imprisonment by the Nazis, who had learned his identity. He arrived in the United States in 1934 and became an American citizen six years later, changing his name at the time to William Sharp, reflecting his acuteness. For the rest of his life he lived quietly with his wife, Ruth, in Forest Hills, Queens. But his pen ranged the world, homing in on subjects as disparate as Winston Churchill, the Father Divine cult, the gangster Frank Costello, the French Resistance, American political conventions, the Depression, besieged Polish Jews, boxers, baseball players, society ladies, street vendors and others. Interested in juvenile justice and the treatment afforded minorities, Sharp also made several series that addressed the problems of children and African-Americans in the legal system, represented (here) by scenes in children's court and sensitive studies of young offenders."
