Oil tempera on canvas "The Annunciation"
Period: 17th century
This beautiful canvas fits into the pure Emilia-Bolognese iconographic tradition of the seventeenth century, captivating at first glance by its simplicity, bright colors and muted tones; certainly the drawing and the setting of the figures denote a naturalness of popular taste, but in the treatment of the draperies and the humble, gentle figures is a skilful and capable hand exercising its profession to the full.
The frame, pictorially reproduced and Renaissance-inspired, would alone suffice to arouse interest in the work, functional to the canvas, a successful complement to the trompe l'oeil effect.
