1930s Futurist Watercolor of a Motorbike Race by Italian Artist Aris Bacci

About the Item

A 1930s futurist watercolor painting of a motorbike race by Italian futurist artist Aris Bacci. Mounted in original geometric cream mottled frame, with stunning color combinations of pink, yellow, orange and black. He was know as the "The Futursit who loved the Bugatti's" as he met Ettore Bugatti while in Paris when he was working for French publisher Grimaud. He became the artistic and advertising adviser for Bugatti and accompanied Ettore Bugatti to many of the most important races of the time. He would sketches and drawings of the cars and events. These vibrant illustrations were used in the daily newspapers to promote the races or illustrate Bugatti victories. This technique had been learnt by Bacci when he was a correspondent for the New York Times in 1918 in Paris and collaborated with the US Army propaganda office, doing reportage pieces to show the horrors of war. In late 1930s Bacci was called to Los Angeles by Warner Bros to create preparatory sketches and posters of the films and sets for the likes of Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Clarke Gable. As a friend of the directors and actors at the time, he developed a love of Jazz and moved to New York to collaborate with Cosmopolitan and the New York Times. He became friends with Jazz musicians Lousi Armstrrong, Charlier Parker, Count Basie and Budd johnson. He continued to Illustrate during the second world war until his death in 1948.
