Author : José Soler "Monjalés" Title: Albanar Year: 1959 Technic: Oil on canvas Measures: 160 cm x 130 cm With “Certificate of Authenticity” Jose Soler, better known “Monjalés”, is perhaps the first Informalist Valencian Spanish painter and precursor of the social painting in Spain. He was part of the well known important Spanish Art Group: Grup Parpalló founded in 1957, in middle of the post Spanish Civil War and Franco’s Dictatorship. His work has been exhibited in important Museums like, the IVAM (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno) in Valencia, and in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid, between others. Unfortunately big part of his young works, disappeared during his long exile of 40 years in Colombia, so it is extremely rare to see some of his young works in the market. Title Meaning: "Albanar", It is a neutral intransitive verb in disuse that has the meaning of supporting, groping or founding from one thing to another. It is necessary to "albanar" a support so that it does not fall and must be affirmed to avoid a possible accident. Etymology: Its etymology is composed of the Arabic "baná" which mean, to build. "Informalism is an artistic movement that embraces all the abstract and gestural tendencies that developed in France, Spain and Italy during the second post-World War, in parallel with American abstract expressionism. The movement was baptized by Juan Eduardo Cirlot, who was its main ideologist. Within it different streams are distinguished, such as lyrical abstraction, material painting, the New School of Paris, tachism, spatialism or art brut. The French art critic Michel Tapié coined the term arte otro (art autre) in the homonymous book, from 1952, on non-geometric abstract art. In the 21st century, this style has given rise to the creation of the New Informalism in Chevry ll, in Gif-sur-Yvette, France".
