The famous painter, Marcel Gotène (Icon of the contemporary Bantu art)
combines surrealistic impressions with modern tapisserie elements.
Born in 1935 in Yaba, Republic of Kongo - died in February 2013 in Rabat, Maroc.
He served an apprenticeship at the art school of Poto-Poto
(Ecole de Peinture de Poto-Poto)
As from 1954 international expositions in France, Belgium, Italy, Senegal, Togo and Gabon.
1963-1975 the artist lives in France.
He got the awards as follows:
Grand Prix France Afrique by "Société Internationale de Beaux Arts / 1973
Grand Prix Public (Médaille de Léonard de Vinci) by "Academie Internationale de Lutèce / 1972
Premier Prix of the President of the Republic of Congo / 1979
Grand Prix of the President of the Republic of Gabun / 1998
2013 he got a special state funeral in his homleand Republic of Congo.
