Charles Melikoff is a Belgian Orientalist Impressionist & Modern painter.
In an era when fine art and natural history museums commissioned artists to travel the world to draw and paint the native cultures they saw, Charles Melikoff' travels to Africa were among the most consequential .Melikoff was asked by organizations and individuals to travel the continent. He produced a oil paintings from the Congo and other areas, including this example, one of his best. Here he shows a group of Mangbetu tribespeople, bringing exotic fruit to market,contrasting with the deep skin tones of the people, which give rich tones and colors to this painting. We consider this to be one of Melikoff' masterpieces. The medium is oil pain on canvas. dimensions include the frame 83 cm - 70 cm.
