Buffalo Dancer, 1920s Native American Painting by Tonita Peña 'Quah Ah'
About
Original signed painting of a Pueblo Buffalo Dancer by early 20th century Native American artist, Tonita Peña (1895-1949). Also known as Quah Ah (her Tewa name), Peña was born in San Ildefonso, a small village in New Mexico, and later moved to Cochiti Pueblo. Tonita Peña was the only woman in the earliest group of self-taught Pueblo painters, who were active beginning in the early 20th century. Presented in a custom frame, outer dimensions measure 18 ¼ x 16 inches. Image size is 9 ¼ x 6 inches. Painted with casein on paper and signed lower right.
