'Equilibrio' by Carlos Montes de Oca, Cuban b. 1968. 57 x 98 in. without frame, 59 x 100 in. including frame, oil on canvas, signed on the front, inscribed, titled and dated 2004 by the artist on the back. Gold leaf modern floater frame. Artist's statement: I like to delve into visual language from the perspective of non-conformity, that which is accepted doesn’t always line-up with our experience, nor do we arrive at the same conclusions. However, every bit of human presence is illuminating while also displaced in the history of the visual arts and this allows me to draw an alternative path where I live art and existence as an individual with near total freedom, where spirit, physical experience and conscience feedback and manifest as a whole, where knowledge bumps against the senses and finally leaves a group of artworks and ideas, a tour of lived experience. BIO: Born in Camagüey, Cuba, 1968. Self-taught artist, he has accomplished courses on engraving techniques: Serigraphy Course, René Portocarrero Workshop (1989), Havana, Cuba and Course of Chalcography, Higher Institute of Arts, Havana. He has fulfilled individual exhibitions in Cuba, United States and Mexico and group exhibitions in Cuba, Panama, Mexico, United States, Switzerland, Costa Rica and Equator among other countries. He has participated in Contemporary Cuban Art Salons in Cuba as well as in Caribbean Biennials.
