About the Item

Exquisite group of five fruit and flower, beautifully framed watercolors on rag paper. All are beautifully framed with lined and marbleized mats in fine frames under glass. I date these to the mid nineteenth century. One was un-framed and fully examined with high power magnification. The floral studies are painted with watercolor on rag paper. Generally, the condition is good. But, there is some foxing occasionally as I will specify on all of the paintings; almost entirely in plain, paper areas. Magnolia painting just a little spot below the leaf; below the interface line at 2 inches and 4 inches from the right bottom corner also upper right; one and three quarters from right side one and a half inches from top and gently minor in general in the upper left corner. The tulip painting has a mat opening of 10 x 12" as the foxing at the right margin 5 inches from the bottom on that 3 inches from bottom of mat and a half inche from the right side. The upper left and upper right corner's have general faint foxing. Cherries have a mat opening of 10 and half inches by 9 1/2 inches. Foxing is general and gentle and a corner area spot four inches from the right side mat along bottom margin line. The frame is 19.5 x 20.5" outermost. The roses white and yellow and blue flowers painting has a mat opening of 12 x 10" the mat has a one and a half inch marbleized area which is watercolor and ink. With regard to the paper condition of the painting: foxing is general and occasional with focal locations upper left towards left line general in upper right and lower right corner's. The Marigold or carnation type flower painting has upper left corner area and lower right four inches from the bottom and one half at two inches from right margin. I was told the had been framed in Greenwich Connecticut in. approximately the 1980's. I do see a label reading: FRAMED BY ART ANNEX Greenwich, CT. Varying sizes: smallest:21 1/2" by 18 3/4" to largest:22" by 20". The mat openings range from 10 1/2" by 9 3/4" to 12 by 10"
