About the Item

Jeanette Slager, born in 1881 in a well-known Bossche family of artists, concentrated on painting flowers and still lifes. She received her first painting lessons from her father, Piet Slager. Then she trained further under the watchful eye of brother Piet Jr, just like her sister Corry. She did not go to the Royal School, because they did not allow female students at the time. The work of Jeanette Slager is characterized by the use of powerful, bold colors. And look at the specific shadow in this work. The painter lived and worked in Den Bosch, The Hague and finally in Vught, where she died in 1945. Many of the works of the Slager family are exposed in "the Slager Museum" in 's-Hertogenbosch - Netherlands. This museum contains a wonderful collection of portraits, landscapes, cityscapes and (flower) still life's from the period 1860 - 2000. All paintings in this museum are made by eight painters from three generations of the family Slager from 's-Hertogenbosch. The extensive collection includes works from different style periods and is presented in constantly changing theme-based exhibitions. This work is a typical for Jeanette Slager, the intens color and the contrast of light and shade. This paining is in excellent condition. A new frame, professionally reconditioned.
