Georges Henri Bilhaut (1882-1963) /France: Painting 'Small Hamlet before a Storm', Early 19th Century An evocative scene of a French Val de Lou small village at the banks of a river just before a storm, signed at the lower right corner. Oil on canvas (with supporting lamination), framed in a fine Neoclassical carved and gilt wood frame. Georges Henri Bilhaut (1882-1963) was a painter and art historian from Abbeville/ Normandy, he studied at the Colle`ge Courbet d'Abbeville and was a pupil of Fernand Cormon at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He is known for his evocative landscape paintings, mostly of the Normandy region.
