Henri-Jean Pontoy (1888-1968). Paris, France on the borders of the Seine.
Better known for his orientalist works, those of Paris are very rare. This striking painting is titled on the back
"Le Vert Galant" its scenes are those of Le Pont Neuf et Le Quai de Conti in Paris, France. The area near the well known area of I'le de la Cite. The beautiful Vert Galant was painted by many famous artists including Pablo Picasso in 1943 and this remarkable work by Pontoy is another.
Oil on canvas, signed on lower left.
Henri Pontoy, born in Reims on February 5, 1888 and died in 1968, is a French painter and engraver, he exhibited at the Salon de la Société Nationale, the Salon d'Automne and in North Africa. Based in Morocco, he participated in exhibitions of Moroccan artists and in the Salon of Africa in Paris.
His style without easy exoticism, comes mainly from a good observation of nature.
Framed measurements: 25 1/2" W x 22 1/2" H x 2" D
Artwork measures 18 1/4" wide x 15" high.
