Italian View of the Livorno Lighthouse, First Quarter of 19th Century

About the Item

Italian View of the Livorno Lighthouse, First Quarter of 19th Century This painting represents the view of the Livorno dock with the lighthouse in the background. The different details in this picture could identify it as a historical view. The first detail is the Heraldic coat of arms of the Medici family with the seven balls surmounted by a crown, in the middle of the 2 arches of the dock. The Medici family dominated Florence from the 15th to the 18th century. Borgo Liburnus (Livorno) near Pisa was the natural port of the city of Florence and of the Medici family, open to all very important naval trade during that period. The second detail is the Vatican flag made with two black crossed keys on a white background is hanging on the flagpole of the ship and the Medici family gave several Popes to the Vatican. Perhaps the third most important detail is the Lighthouse. The lighthouse of Livorno is the oldest in Italy. Since 1303, the first year of its construction, it has been demolished and rebuilt several times. The last time that was rebuilt was in 1956. Measurements with Frame included : 29.5 inches H x 37.5 inches W.
