Japanese Showa Four-Panel Screen of Red Crowned Cranes

About

Fantastic Japanese Showa period four-panel byobu screen featuring eight red crowned Japanese cranes or Manchurian cranes. Painted in a modern Rinpa School style with a dramatic effect of bold colored pigments over a gold silk background. A deep indigo blue water feature runs down the centre of the screen with a blooming cherry tree above. Red crowned cranes are Asian symbols of luck and longevity. This highly detailed screen is set in a very heavy lacquered black wooden frame accented by a dark silk border and etched brass trim with hangers. From an estate in Beverly Hills, CA. Provenance: Purchase in Hong Kong, China in the mid-1970s. Signed and sealed on left side.
