About

Keller was an important painter in the Cleveland School. He was born, lived and taught in Cleveland most of his life. Starting in the late 1920s he began summering in San Diego, and painting California scenes. He is said to have been inspired by Gaugin, and Cezanne, and this painting makes that apparent. The blue trees and the golden sunlight give this picture a luminous and inspired quality.
