$3,950

About

Market Day in Étaples by William Holt Yates Titcomb, 1858-1930. Titcomb was an English artist who was a member of the St. Ives School. He was also part of the Étaples Artist Colony. The art colony consisted of artists working in the Étaples area of France at the turn of the 20th c. The colony had its heyday between 1880–1914. The painting is a scene from the Étaples market place where a mother sits under an umbrella while shoppers admire her baby. It is painted on canvas and is framed with a patinated carved gilt-wood frame with a linen liner. The piece is signed W.H.Y Titcomb and the canvas measures 18.75" H x 14.5" W. In 1909, Titcomb settled in Bristol, where he was already an elected Academician of the Bristol Academy of Fine Art, which later became the Royal West of England Academy (RWA). He encouraged a number of his Cornish contacts to become RWA Academicians as well. N.P. Trent has been a respected name in antiques for over 30 years with a large collection of period furniture, art and decorative accessories.
