This very large and beautiful abstract painting by Chicago painter Maxine Wishnick (1918-2012) is executed in acrylic on unprimed Belgian linen. It dates from 1975 and can be hung vertically or horizontally, the double title suggesting different readings of the highly abstract form based on it's orientation. The rich colorful stripes remind us of both Barnett Newman's "zips" and Morris Lewis' soft ribbony linear drips. Painting is signed, titled and dated twice on the verso.
