About the Item
This is a fantastic original Mid-Century oil on canvas by listed New York artist Dr. Patricia Hermine Sloane (1934-2001). This large work is titled "Cat Face" and signed on the back stretcher. Sloane was an American painter, author, and professor of Fine Arts at NYC Technical College of the City University of New York. She was best known for her Abstract Expressionism painting style, which can be interpreted as early street or urban art, with a close connection to the New York school movement. She was a member of the 10th Street Galleries (specifically the Camino Gallery) in New York City during the 1950s -1960s. Dr. Sloane's books included topics on Fine arts, art history, principles of color, and the works of T.S. Elliot. "Cat Face" has a heavy impasto, giving it amazing texture and color. It also shows off Sloane's great sense of whimsy. It was likely painted 1950-1960 and it looks to have been untouched since then. A gorgeous piece!
About the Artist: Patricia Hermine Sloane (1934 -2001) exhibited all-over the world and studied at the Dayton Art Institute 1947-1949, 1949 Rhode Island School of Design, Ohio University Grad School, National Academy of Design, Hunter College, and also with Hans Hoffman.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Very good vintage condition. Several small chips of paint (please see pictures). Color is very bright and vibrant.
