Modernist Landscape Painting by Nikolai Timkov

About the Item

Oil on board, signed and dated 38' in lower right. Measures 6.75" x 15.5" including the frame, also inscribed and signed on reverse. Nikolai Timkov is one of the best known Russian impressionists in the world. His landscapes and still life’s were done with a mastery of composition and palette while his unique paint application and style are instantly identifiable. After his death in 1993, many of his paintings left St. Petersburg, Russia and found their way to the US and Europe where several books were published. These smaller works were purchased from the artist's son. Timkov was from St. Petersburg, Russia. Born in 1912, he survived the Siege of Leningrad and then attended the prestigious Academy of Arts named after Ilya Repin in the same city. Many of his works are in Russian museums as well as various other city museums, Academy Funds, Artists' Fund of Russia, etc.
