Portrait of Young Tsar Peter the Great, circa 1700

About the Item

Painting with the still young Tsar Peter I. Due to his dark, rather unofficial jacket and the dark background the focus of the painting is based just on the face of the proud emperor. The ermine fur collar stands out clearly and ennobles the young man. Without any insignia or ostentatious clothing and the accentuation on individual facial features, the painting gets a very personal character. The painting could have been painted in workshop of Johann Kupeckys or probabaly by himself.

A nearly identical example is exhibited in the British Museum in London. For this rare décor sometimes nonsensically the term "Warsaw Servive" is used. The letter „K...
