"Sailors and Mermaids, " Stunning, Unique Screen, France

About the Item

This stunning assemblage of 12 Art Deco paintings, depicting mythological and 1930s contemporary themes, all in oil on canvas, have been set into a walnut folding screen. The images include Mercury and Diana, sailor and agricultural worker, American Indian and mermaid, all in rich colors and surrounded by a golden aureole. Although not signed, the painting is very fine; this piece may have been painted and assembled by a noted artist or by an interior design firm in the 1930s. Each of the 12 paintings is 26.5 inches high by 18 inches wide.
