Hand-Painted Paintings

Noel Dieudonne Finart (1797-1852) An important collection of eight framed and mounted original watercolours, seven showing officers, other ranks and musicians of the Prussian Regiments occupying Paris after the Battle of Waterloo. The other displays trophies of arms, standards etc. All very fine with ink inscriptions and notes by the artist. Intended as a frontispiece to a publication of a book. All produced in book form, ultimately published in DERO-BECKER’S MILITARY GALLERY. All rank and regimental details are clearly shown. (8) Provenance : LOT 239, Bonhams ARMS & MILITARIA, 26 September 2012. DERO-BECKER’S MILITARY GALLERY is a Collection of 299 Military Costume Plates of European Nations c.1815-1855 In Three Volumes. It is without doubt one of the largest suites of predominantly European military uniforms produced, and a fine reference for all military historians, wargamers and painters of European historical armies from 1800-1850. During the middle of the nineteenth century, a series of hand-coloured lithographic prints featuring the great armies of Europe, from both the Napoleonic period and later, was published by the printing firm Dero-Becker, who were active in Paris and in Brussels (1840-1855). These three volumes contain 299 coloured lithographed plates, collections of these plates are exceptionally rare to find in the antiquarian market, even single plates can be classified as uncommon.
