About the Item
A brilliantly-hued and vivid painting of tiger lilies from the 1930s, this impressionist painting was executed by Simon Maurice Wachtel, a Pennsylvania painter whose works are rare. He painted some canvases for the Works Progress Administration (WPA), exhibited on occasion at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, but did not seek regular gallery representation. The artist lived for a time in Washington, D.C., and there established Cytel Exhibits and Crafts, which created promotional and educational exhibits for government and business.
