The perfect Modernist style beach scene by celebrated New York City artist George Barrel (Italo Botti). Mr. Barrel would sign his paintings as both Barrel and Botti throughout his long career as an artist. This oil on canvas painting is on a wood stretcher and measures 36" square.

George Barrel was born Italo Botti in 1923 to Italian immigrant parents in New York. He spent his childhood in Manhattan and Brooklyn and attended six different art schools, among them the Art Students League, where he met his future wife, the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts, the Leonardo da Vinci School of Art, the Abracheff School of Fine Art, and the National Academy of Design. He studied under Frank Vincent Dumond, Nicolai Abracheff, Reginald Marsh, and Bernard Lamott. He taught at the City College of New York, the Art Students League, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He lived in Illinois and Florida after New York. He died in 2003.
