"1934 Packard 1108 Twelve Dietrich Convertible Victoria" by Gregg Felsen

About

The car that took top honors as the “Best of Show” at the 63rd annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 18, 2013 was a stunning dark green 1934 Packard 1108 Twelve Dietrich Convertible Victoria, designed by Ray Dietrich. This car is considered by many to be one of the finest automobiles ever produced by Packard and a signature car of the Classic Era. Retired New Jersey superior court judge and classic car collector Joseph Cassini III became the fifth owner when he purchased the car in 2010. A Puerto Rican lawyer living in New York originally bought the car and shipped it to Puerto Rico where it remained from 1938-1968. The lawyer eventually sold the car and over time it deteriorated and served for several years as a Puerto Rican taxi that was garishly painted red and orange. Archival pigment print, Edition of 20, signed and dated on the reverse. 16 x 20 = $1,200 24 x 36 = $2,000 30 x 40 = $2,800 The above prices reflect unframed prints. Framing available upon request. When the car returned to the United States it was complete but in severe disrepair and rust damaged. Cassini employed RM Restorations of Canada, North America's leading automobile restoration facility to renovate the car. The company spent three years and 10,000 man-hours to bring the car back to showroom condition. Cassini’s car was the first Packard to win the “Best of Show” since 1961 and only the fourth Packard to win that title in the 63-year history of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
