Signature: Signed Horst in Pencil on Recto and Vesrso
Created at the height of her fame this is one of the most beautiful photographs of Coco Chanel in which Horst reveals her gentler side. Horst's arrangement of the furnishings, fabrics and lighting creates an atmospheric silhouette, giving rise to an enigmatic Ambience, framed by her distinctive jewelry, poised with cigarette and reclining into a plush satin chair.
Horst P Horst modernized fashion photography, as an innovator of taste and a 20th century master of light it was Coco Chanel who insisted that only Horst be allowed to take her photograph. Horst confessed the first session was "a flop" but the second produced an image that was to remain Chanel's favourite.
