Simon Norfolk is a well known British landscape photographer who has regularly worked with the Agan Khan foundation for Culture. This photography comes from a series of photographs taken in Afghanistan around 2000 illustrating and testifying the damages and desolation in result of the war against the Talibans.
"Landscape photographer Simon Norfolk has documented some of the world’s most brutal war zones and refugee crises. He interrogates the experience of war through the landscape, or in staged group portraits seemingly far removed from action. His lush and color-saturated images of bombed-out ruins, abandoned military hardware, and ancient battlefields dating back to the Roman Empire create dense layers of meaning and pathos without the typical trauma of images associated with war. He has also photographed supercomputers used to design military systems and nuclear missile test launches" (Artsy).
