More about Henry Le Monnier Born in Paris on March 7, 1893, Henry Le Monnier studied at the Ecole Pilon and at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs (Decorative Arts School in Paris), before starting to publish illustrations in 1920 in Fantasia. In 1923 he became a poster artist, first for Lutecia (1923-32), then Joseph Charles (1934-43) and Gaillard (1934-54) where he designed posters for various brands such as: • Armagnac Château Larressingle • Blédine, the famous brand of baby foods • Cavia, the condiment for gourmets • La Chablisienne Chablis wines • Englebert tires • Georges Bisson cheeses in Livarot - this poster • Jean Lescure butters • Lesieur Oils • Lyonnais hams and sausages • Maximo vermouth • Union Laitière des Fermiers d’Isigny • Le Vieux Normand camembert produced by the widow Maurice Rendu in Rocques in Calvados while continuing to publish illustrations in various magazines such as Le Sourire, Le Journalamus, l'Œuvre and Marianne. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, Henry Le Monnier took to illustrating comic books such as the French edition of Tarzan, Pierrot and many others. Henry Le Monnier died in 1978 at the age of 85.
