About the Item

Original vintage travel poster for Madagascar located in the Indian Ocean near Africa featuring an illustrated map showing the various places on a road route, the cities and towns marked with the highlands and forests as well as cattle and farming with ships and boats between images of fish at sea depicting the fishing, agriculture and forestry industries against the light blue water background with a compass point on the side and the title in bold letter above the Comores archipelago in the Mozambique Channel, framed by traditional carved wood decorations on the sides and small images of daily life below. Issued by the Agency of the Colonies French Overseas Ministry in circa 1930. The second largest island country in the world, Madagascar was part of the Colony of Madagascar and Dependencies of the French colonies from 1897-1958, achieving full independence in 1960. Large size. Very good condition, folds.
