"Art Deco/Art Nouveau Nudes, " Rare Prints with Silver & Gold Highlights by Coyle

About the Item

This remarkable and stunning set of six sensuous prints, highlighted in gold and silver ink, was published and bound by John Henry Nash in 1926 to honor the life of his frequent collaborator, Ray Frederick Coyle. Coyle had died an early death, prompting Nash to issue this volume in a limited edition of 210 (this example is number 54), dedicating it to Albert Maurice Bender and William Randolph Keltie Young. Nash had established his own press 10 years before, and was dubbed by one admirer "The Aldus of San Francisco." Coyle illustrated several books published by Nash, including "Jurgen: A Comedy of Justice" and "The Sermon on the Mount." These prints evidence a blend of Art Nouveau and the emerging Art Deco style, and is suggestive of the best work of Aubrey Beardsley.
