Contemporary Myron's s Discobulus Hand Colored Press Print

About the Item

Important and elegant hand colored press print representing the " discobulus of Myron " . The frame is in black painted and patinated wood, mat is in dark red. The statue of Myron’s discus disk, from which the print is taken, dates back to the period of ancient Rome it is in bronze and is dated 450 BC. Over time, a marble copy has been made, which can still be admired in the Roman National Museum in Rome Although Myron was Roman, he was inspired by Ancient Greece in the production of his works. Greek art had the aesthetic principle of representing ideal beauty. The artists, like Mirone, sculpted the characters, divinities or athletes, always with the same care, following a precise canon. They started from the observation of the human body, studying the position of the muscles and movements. Later, they created a canon, that is, a set of rules, measures and proportions, necessary for the creation of human figures. The artists sculpted the statues by choosing balanced positions and attitudes. This feature reflects the principles of balance and harmony of all Greek culture. Athletes were the most represented subjects, together with the gods, in sculpture and ceramics. The athlete was in fact the subject who embodied the concept of kalokagathìa, that is, the beauty of the body which is essential to that of the spirit. It is therefore a concept that considers physical beauty as deriving from the moral and ethical value of the subject. Completely produced in Florence Italy by Artecornici design.
