About the Item

A pair of Rome views, two Neoclassical original etchings depicting Italian views of Rome, with the following titles: Colonna di M. Antonino Imperatore nella via Flaminia in Roma. Vestigi dell'Arco di Costantino Imperatore in Roma. Copper engravings taken from Lo stato di tutti i paesi e popoli del mondo naturale politico e morale con nuove annotazioni e correzioni degli antichi e moderni viaggiatori by Thomas Salmon (London 1679 1767), monumental work published by Giambattista Albrizzi in Venice, 1737 / 66. The work – in twenty-seven volumes – whose original title was Modern history, or the present state of all nations, was translated from English and printed in Venice by Albrizzi over several years and traces a historical analysis of the nations of the world enriched by the geographical and artistic description of cities and include copper engravings depicting the territories, general views and the monuments. Good condition, set with passe-partout within walnut frames with ebonized corners. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago requires a governative license for export called Belle Arti.
