18th Century French Pastoral Landscape Tapestry, with a Couple and Their Flock

A French pastoral landscape tapestry from the 18th century, depicting a placid country scene with a young couple conversing and tending to their flock of sheep amidst the beauty and tranquility of the verdant landscape, and a murmuring brook flowing onto nearby stones. Enclosed within a floral border with acanthus leaves. Wool with silk inlay. Measures: 8’8” H x 6’8” W. Hanging: The tapestry comes ready for hanging, with linen backing and a strip of hook and loop tape at the top end, which can be connected to the opposite side of the supplied hook and loop tape, which could be tacked to your wall. For those who prefer the use of a tapestry rod, we can add the appropriate size loops to accommodate your needs. Beauvais, France. Depicts arrival at a castle, royal horse being heralded by trumpeter and escorted by two guards, continuous floral border and two minor borders. Linen and wool slit weave Beauvais technique with natural indigo, weld, walnut husk, tannin variegated, lichen and moss greens. Condition: Good. Original border intact, minor repair and protective reconstruction with back added as structural safeguard. Some areas with holes, some areas of repair to border. Measures: 8'7'' wide x 10'1'' long.
