About the Item

Antique 18th Century French Aubusson Rustic Tapestry of a Family Preparing Lunch An antique French Aubusson rustic tapestry from the 18th century, size 7'8" H x 8'9" W. This lovely handwoven wall-hanging depicts a charming rustic scene of a family working together to prepare a meal, with the father putting the food in the oven, the children adding wood to the pyre and fanning the flames and the mother setting the table. The scene unfolds in a verdant hilltop setting, with a villagescape in the background. Enclosed within a "trompe l'oeil" ("fool the eye") picture frame type border, comprised of circle motifs and latticework. Composed of fine wool, with silk highlights. In excellent condition for its age. Linen backing. A wonderful addition to your home decor, and a surefire conversation starter! Hanging: The tapestry comes ready for hanging, with linen backing and a strip of hook and loop tape at the top end, which can be connected to the opposite side of the supplied hook and loop tape, which could be tacked to your wall. For those who prefer the use of a tapestry rod, we can add the appropriate size loops to accommodate your needs.
