"Farm Life," Important, Rare Art Deco Tapestry by Jean Olin, France

About

A brilliant and important example of Art Deco design, this wool tapestry was designed by Jean Olin and executed by the Aubusson tapestry works in France. The stylized farm animals including turkey, cow, rabbit and goose are intermixed with flowering plants and superimposed over a patchwork of brick, solid color and pattern. Olin was born Sigismund Olesiewicz in Poland, and after training in Odessa and elsewhere, he settled in France and Frenchified his name. He was a designer in the famous Primavera shop established by Le Printemps department store, painted numerous easel paintings, and decorated a number of church interiors.
